The workshop “Seismic Risk, Recovery and Resilience” was held on June 16 and 17, 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. The workshop was jointly organized by the Serbian Association of Earthquake Engineering (SUZI-SAEE), Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade (GF@UB) from Serbia, and the European Facilities for Earthquake Hazard and Risk (EFEHR) consortium. Financial support for the workshop was provided by the SUZI-SAEE, GF@UB, and Whitby Wood Popovic d.o.o. from Belgrade, Serbia.
Twenty five invited experts in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology from North Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland, and USA participated in the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to present latest developments related to seismic risk assessment, starting from regional seismic hazard and exposure models which served the basis for seismic risk model for Europe, which has been recently developed as a part of the SERA project. Besides that, methods for estimating and improving functional recovery of buildings and infrastructure systems, with the aim of improving community disaster resilience, have also been presented. It expected that application of these advanced research studies will contribute to decreasing both direct and indirect losses due to future earthquakes.
The workshop was delivered as a combination of lectures by invited speakers and presentations by the participants who shared their research and experience related to the workshop topics, including the recent earthquakes that affected the region and potential future earthquakes. Selected presentations (slides and video recordings) are available in the following text.
